ADD Diet Challenge Day 29

2 May

This week was full of good food. Chili, chicken fettucine alfredo, and Grace’s all time favorite, popcorn.  Oh, there was also some mushroom fettucine alfredo that was phenomenal.  Grace tattled on Daddy that he wasn’t putting fruits and veggies in her lunch, “He’s only giving me cookies and crackers!”  Can you believe a child actually complained about that?  Only my turkey would find that offensive.  She’s definitely one of a kind.

Well, we are one month into the diet challenge with one left to go.  At this point, we’re calling it succesful, we’re fairly certain that we won’t need to modify it at the end of 60 days, but the challenge ain’t over yet.  The changes we’ve noticed so far: NO TANTRUMS.  Not a single one in a month.  Grace is sleeping better, in fact, we’ve found she needs a little more sleep than before (which is good!).  She’s calmer and is able to express her feelings more clearly.  When it comes to homework, Grace is no longer taking as long as possible to get it done or pretending she doesn’t know how to do her homework.  She comes home, pulls it out, and finishes it in under five minutes.  She doesn’t argue about it, complain, or find ways to distract me from noticing she’s not doing it.  Also, she hasn’t gotten in trouble in school!  Last week was her best week yet in school.

Lots of improvement, lots of amazing changes.  And it’s only been a month.  Our hope is that it will keep getting better.  Grace just seems so much happier since we’ve made the switch.  She loooooves all the fruits and vegetables, oh and the rice.  I think that may be part of it.  Our dinners have improved.  I put a lot more effort into what we eat as a family, I try to make sure there’s more variety.

Unfortunately, we still have no garden or compost heap.  Minnesota has not cooperated.  It’s been snowing lightly on and off all day.  And it’s chilly.  On a plus note, we got the living room and most of the entry way painted this weekend.  Trust me, it looks so much better.  The down side, Adele was so upset that her toys were packed away, she had some, um, digestive problems.  Emotionally fragile, delicate little fluff ball.  Hopefully, spring will finally arrive and we can start our garden.  Grace is desperate to put her new tools to use.  Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Wow! Congratulations on all the delicious meals, and the positive changes in Grace. Imagine how much more she’ll learn now that she can focus more on her schoolwork and can sleep better at night. Yay! Sorry to hear about the pup’s tummy troubles though. Our Maggie gets the same way when it’s stormy out. I woke up this morning and could hear her tummy grumbling under my bed.

We haven’t had a storm yet, I’m really worried how she’ll respond! At least now we understand what sets her off, and we can try to prepare for the worst.
I can’t believe the changes we’ve seen, or how much Grace loves this new lifestyle. Honestly, I think she feels better physically and emotionally, and that’s why she’s so gung ho about it.

Congrats indeed! Good for Grace…and the rest of you! Hey, in addition to the garden you can check out any local farmers’ markets. We don’t go often enough, but it’s always great stuff, low prices, and just fun meeting people to who love to grow things.

    Keep up the great work!

Already checked it out! Our farmer’s market doesn’t open until July 7th, and I’ll be waiting at the door. This Sunday we’re going to the Green Expo (my Mother’s Day present to us) and hopefully we’ll find out about other great places around us!
