Needed A Little Break

8 Jul

I think we all need a break now and then, don’t you?  It just got to the point where I was working too many hours and I was simply too tired to blog.  That doesn’t mean there weren’t things going on in our family.  But to save time, I will bypass those and focus on the recent activities.

First, I’d like to share some interesting news.  Lil’G has never been able to tolerate humidity.  If she stuck so much as a toe outside, her whole body would turn bright red.  And that wasn’t even the worst symptom.  Fevers, diarrhea, welts, her right cheek would swell and harden.  No matter what we did: constantly giving her water, making her take breaks while playing, keeping her in the house when the humidity was outrageous; we couldn’t stop it from happening.  Well, we are pleased to tell you those days seem to be over.  One of the things we read while researching ADD/ADHD diets, was that Omega3 helped with all kinds of ailments.  Heat sensitivity was one of them.  Grace has been out in the heat (days were the temps reached about 100) with no ill side effects.  Her skin turned pink, but never lobster red.  Yep, this lifestyle change just keeps making our family happier.

On Monday, not only was it Independence Day, but it was also Chris’s 28th birthday.  We decided to live life on the wild side.  We went to Noodles and Company for dinner, and then to the carnival.  Grace went on her very first big ride, The Tarantula.  I rode with her and I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard.  “I’M TERRIFIED!” “I HATE THIS!” “IF IT SPINS ONE MORE TIME I’M GOING TO THROW–AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!”  Lucky for me she didn’t throw up.  G might have hated that ride, but she loved the next one.  She and Daddy rode The Gravatron.  They were laughing when they stepped off.  We treated ourselves to some mini doughnuts, Grace only ate one.  Chris and G went on the big slide, then we girls finished it off with a ride on the Ferris Wheel.  While we were laughing and taking pictures of ourselves, Dad got himself some cheese curds.  The Little Food Dictator refused to try these.  That was the funniest part of the night.  Grace, all of seven years, didn’t get too crazy with the food freedom we gave her.  Probably a good thing.

We ended the night with our amazing friends, Jeanette and Mike and her family.  Grace and Jeanette’s daughter, Haleigh, were attached at the hip.  Those two chased us around with water guns, danced to Taylor Swift, shrieked and giggled at the neighbors fireworks, and just had the time of their lives.  The fireworks were the best we’ve ever seen.  The yard opened up right into the park with the carnival, which happened to be where they set off the fireworks.  They were so large, they seemed to take up the entire sky.  I held hands with my husband and teased the little princesses.  Best day we’ve had as a family in a long time.  So much laughter, so much fun.  It was one of those nights you wish would never end.

But it did, and it was time to go home.  The puppies were beginning to think we’d never come home again.  Thankfully they didn’t mess in their kennels.  Well, that’s all from me.  I almost didn’t even blog tonight, it’s been another long week.  But if not now, then when?  Of course, my exhaustion isn’t helped by our newest addition, Indy, who wakes up at 3:30 every morning to go potty.  She is so lucky she’s cute, because Mama don’t like waking up that early!

It’s great to see you blogging again! That was a beautiful description of a beautiful family day. I’m so glad the lifestyle/dietary changes are working out so well for G…and the rest of you.
